Rustic wolf spider, Trochosa ruricola

Body size

Female to 15mm; male to 10mm.

Appearance

Like other wolf spiders, the carapace is long with 2 large eyes at the front. Both sexes are dark brown with a pale band running the length of the carapace and continuing to the first half of the abdomen (photo).

Habitat, range and season

Grassland, woodland, scrub and lawns. Europe and much of Asia to Japan. Adults occur from April to June.
