Grasshoppers and crickets, which form the group Orthoptera, are generally recognised by their large hind legs and ability to jump away quickly if approached. Many species make easily heard noises by rubbing 2 parts of their body together, known as stridulation. It is possible to identify different species based on the sound they make.
