Mining bee, Andrena nigroaenea

Mining bees are solitary bees that emerge in early spring and favour sandy places to excavate burrows. They are known to buzz loudly and continuously. 

Andrena nigroaenea has a yellow-orange hairy thorax, a dark brown abdomen with black stripes, and pale hair stripes between abdominal segments. Females are around 14mm, while males are about 11mm.

Other bees
