One of the smaller bush crickets, the long-winged conehead has a brown stripe down its green body and a pointed head. It looks similar to the short-winged conehead but has much longer wings extending beyond the tip of its body.
This species is native to the British Isles and is scarce. However, although once confined to the south and east of England it is spreading northwards. It can be spotted in rough grassland and damp habitats.
This cricket's song is soft, but within a metre you can hear a hissing buzz.
