As the name suggests, the speckled bush cricket is green with small black specks over its body. It has very short wings and is flightless.
Widespread across south and central England and the Welsh coast, this species prefers coarse vegetation and hedgerows. It can be spotted in gardens, often seen perching on bushes, particularly bramble.
A high-pitched chirp is made by the male rubbing its wings together, but this is barely audible to humans.
