Rose chafer larva, Cetonia aurata
Rose chafers are found over southern and central Europe and localised parts of southern England. They are a very beneficial species as their larvae are the insect equivalent of earth worms, helping to make very good compost. The larvae are C-shaped and have firm, wrinkled, hairy bodies. They move on their backs, which is a quick way to identify them.
