Western conifer-seed bug, Leptoglossus occidentalis

The western conifer-seed bug is an invasive species to the UK that has come to prominence in the last few years. It is a large species with a white zigzag mark across the centre of its forewings. Since 2008 it has spread inland from the coast of southern England and is becoming well-established. This species is a member of a family of true bugs called the Coreidae (squash bugs), There are around 2,000 species of coreids world-wide, some of which are amongst the largest terrestrial insects.
