'An old man living up the road. would take a small sliver of the inner bark from barberry (Berberis vulgaris) and boil it in milk. This was given to the sufferer to drink and "as soon as it hit the stomach, just as it was drank" though causing violent vomiting, "the jaundice would be gone"'. 'A friend told me that many years ago his brother obtained a herbal potion from an old man in Bally William, near Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.
