The abundance and distribution of earthworm species is poorly known in the UK.
The first distribution maps of Earthworms in the UK are about to be published ( Fig 1) and show massive gaps in our knowledge of this very important group.
With the OPAL national survey of the 13 most common UK species (including chlorotica) and research being carried out by NHM staff with volunteers funded by Natural England we hope to change this.
With climate change potentially changing the natural environment we need to get a handle on the population dynamics of these very important species now so we can monitor how a species like chlorotica will fare in the future.
