Behaviour

Meconema males do not have a stridulatory organ on the fore wings, but instead call by vibrating a hind leg so that the tarsus is drummed on the substrate.

The oak bush-cricket produces rapid bursts of drumming (Sismondo, 1980), whereas the southern oak bush-cricket produces 4–10 distinct taps per bout of drumming (Vahed, 1996).
