This extinct species led an essentially sedentary existence.

Associations

These forms, in common with other ‘Larger’ foraminifera, contained symbiotic green algae, living off the by-products of algal photosynthesis, whilst providing protection for the algae within their shell.

All nummulitids are also known for a feature of shell construction called radial or marginal canals which, by linkage with spiral canals, allowed cytoplasm to bypass later chambers, forming a connection between earliest chambers and the outside of the shell - thought to be an important feature of algae-containing forms.
