Distribution

Periphylla periphylla may be the world’s most common and widely-occurring deep-sea scyphozoan - true jellyfish. 

It is found in every ocean apart from the Arctic, usually from 1000–7000 metres, but rising to shallower depths at higher latitudes. 

It occurs in much higher concentrations in Norwegian fjords, in particular Lurefjorden, western Norway.
