Both Neanderthals and early modern humans depended on their tools for survival. This film shows the making of one of these tools: a deer antler harpoon.

This tool is based on examples created by Homo sapiens in Europe, around 14,000 years ago. Carved with precision, it represents part of a toolkit used by early modern humans that was lighter and more varied than that of Neanderthals or earlier humans.

Antler harpoons like this were most likely attached to a wooden spear and used as a spear point for fishing.
