The azure damselfly is very common throughout Britain except the northern half of Scotland and is spotted near a range of water habitats, both still and flowing.
With a bright blue body and black markings, it is easily confused with the common blue damselfly and other Coenagrion species. However, males can be distinguished by a black U-shaped mark on the 2nd segment of the abdomen (the tail-like part of the body). The females are generally paler and can also have a green base colour.
