Beautiful demoiselle damselfly, Calopteryx virgo

This is 1 of only 2 species of damselfly found in Britain with obviously-coloured wings.

Males have very dark blue wings with metallic blue-green bodies. Females have iridescent brown-green wings and a green body with a bronze tip.

This species is mainly seen in the west and south of Britain and Southern Ireland and can be found near faster flowing streams or rivers, especially with gravel or sandy bottoms.
