The flies are found where their rhinoceros hosts occur. Historically that was probably across much of the savannah grasslands of sub-Saharan Africa, but presently they are restricted to the grasslands of eastern and southern Africa.
Population biology
There is no reported information on population biology but, like other obligate myiasis-causing parasites, the adult density is undoubtedly low, especially considering the threatened status of the host animals.
