Threats

The greatest threat to Acavus superbus and its relatives is the fragmentation and loss of natural forest and traditional village gardens due to the expansion of intensive agriculture, primarily monoculture tea.

These snails occur at remarkably high densities in village home gardens. This type of synanthropic habitat was once widespread but has declined dramatically over the past few decades and significant areas now only remain in the most remote and rugged parts of southwestern Sri Lanka.
