Diagnostic description
- Adults with
- black background colour
- darker velvety on upperside,
- forewing with broad medial orange-bronzy-golden-green stripe
- sometimes bifurcated at costa.
- Curved greenish band before apex, and sometimes a few bluish-green stripes.
- Before medial forewing band 4-5 thin orange or greeny-bronze stripes.
- Underside forewing pattern similar but in light metallic blue-green. Hindwing long-tailed like a kite swallowtail butterfly, very narrow, with complex broad band which is blue-green in upper quarter, dark orange down to line of the tail, and then light blueish-grey with grey stripes towards abdominal margin.
- Underside of hindwing greenish blue metallic (underside similar to Urania boisduvalii).
- Males smaller and usually more orange on forewings than females.
- Head relatively small as abdomen in relation to wings, antennae filiform, less than half forewing length.
