A cow suffering from liver fluke infection

Whilst inside the body the liver fluke feeds on liver tissue and excretes products that further scar and destroy the lining of the liver.

Over time the infected animal becomes progressively out of condition. Despite de-worming medications, farmed animals become quickly re-infected from contaminated pastures and, once established, removal of the disease from afflicted farms is problematic.
