Global levels of malaria have not been mapped since the 1960s. However, the Wellcome Trust, UK, has funded the Malaria Atlas Project to rectify this. Â
Malaria is endemic in the tropics, from South America, Sub-Saharan Africa - where it is most deadly - to Southeast Asia, affecting the lives of millions of people worldwide.
