Fox moth caterpillar, Macrothylacia rubi

The very exotic fox moth caterpillar has black and tawny hairs running down its length, black and white hairs along its sides, and sometimes spots of yellow.

Fox moth caterpillar hairs can cause skin irritation and rashes.

This caterpillar feeds on plants such as bramble and heather. It will generally pupate and take flight from May to June.
