Elephant hawk-moth, Deilephila elpenor
This beautiful pink and green moth derives its name from the caterpillar’s resemblance to an elephant trunk. It is a common species in the UK and has become more widespread over the last few years. The elephant hawk-moth is on the wing from May to July and favours woodland clearings and gardens where it is often seen feeding on fuchsias.
