Distribution

The Chacoan peccary is found in the dry Chaco region, which covers about 140,000 square kilometres, incorporating part of Paraguay, Bolivia and northern Argentina.

It is a cactus-eating specialist and is found in impenetrable dry forest.

It lives in herds of up to 10 animals and the world population is estimated at 3,000.
