It is difficult to obtain precise information on the distribution and abundance of fish species and the conservation status of Betta brownorum is not listed as of particular concern by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
However, peat swamp forests in Sarawak are being rapidly destroyed and converted into oil palm plantations.
This raises concerns about the future of this species and other endemic peat swamp forest fish.
