This species is considered to be of least concern by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) on account of its wide distribution, large population, occurrence in protected areas and tolerance of habitat modification.
Unlike other small marsupials, this species has been frequently trapped in areas close to human habitation, suggesting they are less susceptible to habitat modification than other species (Smith, 2009).
It is known from at least 2 protected areas in Brazil and several others in the range (IUCN, 2010).
