P. pansa is closely related to other genera such as Drupa and Thais.
It is sympatric with Plicopurpura columellaris.
It has a dark grey knobbly shell with pinkish-brown aperture.
It can be distinguished from P. columellaris by its lack of strong teeth inside the aperture.
