Death watch beetle, Xestobium rufovillosum
This woodboring beetle is a native British species which infests furniture and structural timbers in buildings. The adult beetle is around 7mm long with a brown body covered in yellow hairs. It makes a tapping sound by banging its head against the wood, which is possibly a mating call. Often heard in churches, this call was once thought to be a count down to the time of death, hence the name.
