The furniture beetle, also known as woodworm, is by far the most common wood boring beetle in the UK. The adult is very small and brown with an almost cylindrical body. It feeds on and lives in furniture, structural timber, plywood and wicker, creating tunnels in the wood. Over time this can greatly reduce the strength of the infested timber. If you think you have an infestation look out for any small bore holes in exposed wood with sawdust around them, especially if tapped. These beetles can be controlled by applying a proprietary woodworm killer.
