House fly, Musca domestica

House flies occur in almost all inhabited areas of the world, commonly found on decaying animal or plant material. They are easily identified as they have 4 black stripes on their thorax. These pests can be harmful to human health as they are able to carry a number of diseases. The best way to get rid of house flies is to keep food covered and your house clean. The female can lay up to 500 eggs in 3 or 4 days, out of which emerge maggots. After a few days the maggot encases itself in a reddish-brown skin (the pupa) before developing and hatching as a fly.
