Springtail, Collembola

Harmless to humans, most species of springtail live in the soil feeding on detritus and fungi. However, they are also found in houses with high humidity or mold, especially when it is dry outside. These arthropods use their tails to jump short distances giving them a unique form of locomotion. The most commonly seen species is grey with an elongated body.
