Lime hawk-moth, Mimas tiliae
Of the 17 hawk-moth species in the UK, the lime hawk-moth is one of the commonest and most widely distributed species. The adult has a distinctive ‘camouflaged’ pattern and cannot be easily confused with any other commonly occurring UK moth. Like most moths it is active at night but is often seen at rest during the day. It flies in May and June and can be seen in woodland and suburban areas.
