Amblyptilia acanthadactyla is just one of around 35 species of plume moth found in the UK. Unlike other moths their wings are made up of just a few feathery plumes. When resting, most species roll their plumes around each other and hold them straight out to form a T-shape with its body. Amblyptilia acanthadactyla has become much more frequent since the 1990s and is now classed as a common species throughout Britain. It is nocturnal and has 2 generations, July and September, flying after hibernation until May.
