Six-spot burnet moth, Zygaena filipendulae

The striking red and black colouration of this day-flying moth warns potential predators that it is poisonous. Despite the name, the number of red spots on its wings can vary and are sometimes fused. This species is found in grassy areas and on cliffs throughout Europe including Britain, although favours coastal regions in the north of the UK.
