Etymology

Idioneurula donegani is formed as the genitive singular of the fictional first declension masculine Latin noun doneganus.

The epithet is dedicated to Thomas Michael Donegan, EBA project director and pioneer of the expeditions to Serranía de los Yariguíes. A fieldworker and researcher in Colombia for 10 years, Thomas has contributed to our knowledge of Colombian biodiversity through exploration, description of various new bird taxa and by supporting young Colombian researchers.
