Distribution and conservation

Solanum sanchez-vegae is found only in the montane cloud forests (sometimes called ceja de la selva - eyebrow of the jungle - or jalca) in northern Peru, most often on the Andean slopes or in the inter-Andean valleys. It grows at elevations from 2500 to 3500 metres.
Conservation
Solanum sanchez-vegae has a relatively narrow distribution, but within that is relatively common, and it occurs in some protected areas such as Parque Nacional Abiseo in the Department of San Martín in Peru which is a UNESCO World Heritage site (http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/548). No detailed studies of its population size or threatened status have been carried out.
