This species lives on the eastern coast of Australia in New South Wales and southern Queensland.
Other Solemya species are known from seagrass beds around the world including the Mediterranean, eastern seaboard of the USA and the Caribbean.
One species lives in submarine wood pulp deposits off western Canada.
