Turbo kenwilliamsi

Turbo kenwilliamsi, a turban shell large marine snail, is common on rocky shores along the western and south-western coastline of Australia.

Turbo kenwilliamsi was previously known as Turbo pulcher or Turbo intercostalis 

Turbo kenwilliamsi, name has changed recently as a result of nomenclatural studies carried out by a group of scientists including the author Dr Suzanne Williams. The marine snail was renamed in honour of the authors father Kenneth F. Williams, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.

    Taxonomy

    Turbo kenwilliamsi was first called Turbo pulcher Reeve, 1842 and later Turbo intercostalis Menke, 1843. However for nomenclatural reasons (discussed in Williams, 2008), neither of these names is acceptable. Find out more about the name choice Turbo kenwilliamsi.
