Behaviour

During the daytime X. captaini tends to remain hidden under surface soil and leaf litter. It is not a powerful burrower, but if unearthed during the day attempts either to re-bury itself or occasionally ‘plays dead’.

It is potentially more surface-active at night but no observations have been reported.

This species is harmless to humans, having never been reported attempting to bite.
