The grayling is quite a large butterfly that is very good at camouflaging itself against dirt and stones. This is due to its varying hues of brown and light streaks of white. On its forewings, it has dark eye spots and some yellow/orange shading. Male wingspan 51-56 mm. Female wingspan 54-62 mm.
