Common blue, Polyommatus icarus

The common blue butterfly can be found in Britain between May and August. The males of this species are entirely blue, while the females are brown with variable shades of blue and have orange spots near the margins of the upperside of its wings. It commonly feeds on plants such as Bird’s-Foot Tefoil, Bungle, Thyme and Thistles. Wingspan ranges from 29-36 mm.
