Speckled wood, Pararge aegeria

As its name suggests, the speckled wood can mostly be found in woodland because it particularly favours shaded conditions. Typically, northern specimens are dark brown with white spots. The southern specimens are dark brown with orange spots. Their range of activity is between March and October. Adults mostly feed on honeydew, but will take nectar from other plants. Male wingspan 46-52 mm. Female wingspan 48-56 mm.
